Why does STAMIT use cobots?

Rising order numbers from existing and new customers prompted STAMIT to look for ways to increase productivity and flexibility. A key factor was the acute shortage of qualified technical specialists, which made the implementation of robot technologies unavoidable. The aim was to partially automate production in order to ensure consistently high delivery capacity and quality even in the event of staff shortages.

What challenge needed to be solved?

The manual loading of two CNC machining centers in three-shift operation was extremely strenuous and tiring for the staff. One operator per shift was exclusively occupied with loading and unloading parts from the machines. Since human performance is naturally limited when it comes to these repetitive tasks, the management sought a solution to replace these physically demanding positions and increase the performance of the entire plant.

What does Universal Robots' solution look like?

In collaboration with a certified partner, STAMIT implemented a machine tending solution based on the UR10. Thanks to the cobot's simple programming and safety features, the system was fully integrated into production within just three weeks.

1
Security assessment & setup

Following a positive risk analysis, the cobot could be installed directly next to the employees without bulky protective fences.

2
material feed

Equipped with an electricgripper , the UR10gripper up the raw material with precision.

3
machine loading

The cobot communicates directly with the CNC machining center, loads it, and starts the automated tooling process.

4
Removal & storage

Once processing is complete, the robot removes the finished part and sets it aside for further quality control or packaging.

Why the UR10 was the ideal choice for STAMIT

Physical range

The size and reach of the UR10 are ideal for simultaneously operating two CNC centers and securely gripping various objects.

High flexibility

The system can be adapted to new tasks within two weeks, allowing even small batch sizes to be automated efficiently.

Quick payback

STAMIT expects that the investment in the UR10 will have paid for itself in full after 17 months at the latest.
